Senior/Principal Scientist – In Vitro

Coave Therapeutics is a clinical stage biotechnology company focused on developing life changing gene therapies in rare ocular and CNS (Central Nervous System) diseases. Pushing the boundaries of gene therapy through application of our AAV or LNP Ligand Conjugates platform (ALIGATER) will enable targeted delivery, enhanced gene transduction and tissue distribution to improve the effectiveness of advanced gene therapies for rare diseases. Advancing a pipeline of novel therapies targeting rare where targeted gene therapy has the potential to be most effective, is creating fundamental new ways to impact diseases, where there is a clear unmet need.

Position Overview

We have an opportunity for a Senior/Principal Scientist – In Vitro to join the In Vitro Discovery and Preclinical group within Coave Therapeutics and contribute to developing pioneering gene medicine therapies. Her/his/their work will primarily focus on leveraging strong expertise in cell-based assays to design, plan, and execute in vitro experiments to characterize and screen our candidate gene therapy constructs and viral vectors. Her/his/their scientific background, initiative, curiosity, and rigor will enable the candidate to work with a high level of autonomy and guide more junior members of the team.

 Job responsibilities

  • From the bench, provide scientific leadership in the design and execution of in vitro experiments aimed at advancing our product candidates.
  • Design, plan, and execute complex cell-based assays to evaluate the mechanisms of action and biological effects of our therapeutic constructs/vectors across different indications.
  • Design, plan, and execute in vitro screening assays to characterize and test our novel conjugated vectors using protein and gene expression analysis.
  • Identify and implement novel methods or technologies to enhance workflow efficiencies and improve the quality of the In Vitro team deliverables.
  • Accurately record and critically analyze completed experiments. Prepare study reports for senior leadership and present results internally to interdisciplinary teams, as well as externally.
  • Write and review study protocols, study reports, and SOPs.
  • Participate in regulatory filings, and project presentations.
  • Communicate, collaborate, and coordinate effectively with other R&D teams.
  • Develop, mentor, and guide junior members on the team.

Required Education & Experience

  • PhD in Cell Biology, Biochemistry and/or Molecular Biology or other relevant disciplines, with at least 3/5 years of post-PhD experience in biologics development.
  • Proven expertise in diverse cell and tissue culture modalities, as well as in the design, troubleshooting, and optimization of cell-based assays.
  • Experience with molecular biology (RNA/DNA extraction, qPCR, RT-qPCR, ddPCR, plasmid design), protein analysis (Western-Blot, ELISA, Jess), live and/or microscopy imaging techniques.
  • Strong record of scientific publications.
  • Experience working with AAV vectors.

Competencies

  • Ability to work within minimal direction to meet objectives and timelines, adapting to changes and priorities to fulfill our mission.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Strong attention to detail, highly organized and ability to multitask in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment.
